Review: The Before Now and After Then – Peter Monn

The Before Now and After ThenThe Before Now and After Then by Peter Monn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is incredible. It is a valued addition to the Young Adult genre.

Danny Goldstein had always lived in the background, whereas his twin brother Sam has always lived in the forefront. Whilst they were identical and incredibly close brothers, they were not alike. Sam had confidence in every aspect of his life, whereas Danny did not. But one day this relationship is torn apart after Sam is involved in a tragic accident.

When Danny starts a new school after his brother’s death he meets the gorgeous Rusty. The twoย embark on a whirlwind romance, and ultimately fall in love. It was a joy to read the relationship between Danny and Rusty, their personalities were crafted so well that they had instant chemistry.

But be warned: this book will turn you into an emotional wreck, without giving any of the details away, The Before Now and After Then deals with a lot of heartbreak. But that’s not why this book made me cry. This book made me cry because I became so attached to the characters, they all had so much depth that I couldn’t help become attached to them, especially to Danny and Rusty.

In conclusion, who would I recommend this book to? Well, anyone who likes YA, especially fans of David Levithan.

Peter Monn is definitely a name you should be keeping an eye out for.
